TRANSFORMING ANXIETY

A new in-person course will be held in Milton Keynes on transforming anxiety. Rather than simply providing information and teaching techniques to help you manage anxious thoughts and feelings, this course will support you in making deeper personal shifts that transform your relationship to anxiety. Drawing on my training as a psychotherapist, coach and mindfulness teacher, this course will be experiential and support you in taking action and making changes.

Not just managing anxiety

In order to thrive we don’t just want to ‘manage’, or ‘keep on top of’ our anxious thoughts and feelings with strategies and techniques. Transformation comes from having insight into our experience and discovering how our body and mind keep cycles of anxiety alive. Learning how working with body and mind, we can start to release familiar patterns.

Significant and lasting changes in your experience of anxiety are possible!

There are 3 related elements that we will explore on this course:

BODY AND BODY SENSATIONS

Body sensations (trembling, sweating, shaking, feeling wobbly, difficulty breathing, stomach cramps etc.) are difficult and uncomfortable elements of anxiety.

You will learn new ways of exploring and being with the physical symptoms of anxiety so that you can include and be with these symptoms – this allows them to settle rather than us being frightened of them.

THOUGHTS AND THINKING

Thoughts and fears swirl in our minds increasing our anxiety. Thoughts and body sensations combine and feed each other and we find ourselves in spirals of anxiety that we want to escape from.

Gaining perspective on our thinking helps us see thoughts simply as thoughts, rather than true or false. We can slow down and start to question the reality our thoughts seem to represent.

INSIGHT AND TRANSFORMATION

Transforming your relationship with anxiety (and you can also apply the same approach to stress, or depression) requires insight into the interplay between body sensations and thinking, so we can ‘see’ how anxiety operates in us.

In doing so we can start to create space in the anxious interplay of thoughts and body sensations. From a place of insight we can take actions that transform us.

About me

I am an accredited psychotherapist, transformational coach and have taught meditation and mindfulness courses for over 10 years. I have been supporting people in their personal journeys since 2013.

I have hundreds of hours experience of leading groups, workshops and retreats and I also work 1-1 with people to help them explore, recognise, integrate and move beyond what feels restricting or limiting in their lives.

I have created this course based on my experience of working through my own anxiety and supporting others to do the same.

Course format

We will meet fortnightly as a group for 3 group sessions at a venue in Milton Keynes, each lasting 3 hrs. The number of participants will be limited to 12.

Over the duration of the course, each participant will also meet with me individually in person (or on Zoom if preferred) for a private session where we can explore your experience in more depth, drawing out your insight and understanding.

In the group sessions, we will use a combination of grounding and awareness practices, inquiry exercises in pairs, reflection, and discussion. There will also be the option to explore particular aspects of your experience and your understanding in short ‘laser sessions’ where you will be supported in a deeper inquiry and exploration.

There will also be a private Facebook group where you can access resources and communicate with other people on the course.

This course is safe, gentle and trauma-sensitive. You will be supported into finding more regulated states of being that support insight and transformation.
